Opening Reception Saturday, January 17th, 5 to 7 pm; through March 28th.
Without the means–or Machiavellian methods–Lorenzo Medici had at his disposal during the Renaissance, we may see ourselves as bystanders in today’s art world. But, every day, collectors support the arts by collecting and commissioning the work of living artists. Lifelong passions can be ignited quickly by the purchase of a single piece, or grow slowly over time.
Medici Schmedici presents the work of five outstanding artists and explores the relationship these artists have with some of the major collectors of their works. By telling the story of how these connections have evolved–both in the exhibition, and in a series of artist and collector talks–the gallery hopes to add to the conversation about the role collectors can play in supporting an artist’s vision. Medici Schmedici was conceived and co-curated by MJ Sharp and Frank Konhaus.
