DURHAM, NC – FOLDING LIGHT, a collaborative show from Heather Gordon and Warren Hicks, opens October 24th at the Durham Art Guild’s Suntrust Gallery and runs through November 28th. All of the works in the exhibit, both individually and co-created, are black and white including photographs, site specific installation, video, and sculpture.
FOLDING LIGHT brings together work from Gordon and Hicks that probes questions of identity and community through a process of replication and iteration. One group of large portraits combines representational imagery with diagrammatic mapping using a multi-step process of photographing printed and folded photographs. In another project, an ongoing video project titled “Moving Light”, Hicks and Gordon interview members of the Durham arts community documenting a rich diversity of answers to unrevealed questions. Additional pieces in Folding Light include photographic works from Hicks, and a site specific installation and sculpture playground from Gordon.
